How/Why water is stored in camel's hump?

What if someone tells that you would have to spend 2 days in desert with no food but just one camel. Are you going to take water on loan from camel's hump? Would you? If you are going to, it's just one way ticket to more thirsty time, because it is not going to work!!

Hellooooooooooooooooooo everyone... Today we are going to explore something about camel's hump. About the water present in camel's hump

We all have heard stories that camel's hump stores water which they utilize when there is a shortage of the same in deserts. That people wandering the desert on search of water cut the camel's hump and drink water from it..

Well, to cut things short ... These are all a myth and its a big NOOOOOOO to the so called fact about water stored in camel's hump.

What the hump actually has is fat, yes.. FAT which is actually utilized by the camel's body system when in need i.e. when there is scarcity of food around them.

Once all the fat is utilized from the hump, the hump actually loosens up and drools down. So instead of on top, you can see the hump drop down below the neck. Once sufficient food is consumed, the hump gets restored back to its normal position and stature.

If you are wondering why camels can survive without water for a longer time the answer is more down to the adaption they have because of being in the desert areas or dryer regions.

- The shape and size of the cell structures they have are more ellipsoid and they can expand more to retain water. The football like shaped cells unlike human's disc shaped cells are in better to move ahead as the blood thickens from dehydration.

- The faeces, urine they discharge are more thick and dry. Just for another day but one can also use camel's poo poo as a fuel for lighting fire.

- The body structure they have helps them in tolerating the harsh weather they are in. The thick coats, foot structure, breathing mechanism help them in regulating the hot and cold weather.

It is said that they can go around with 30-40% drop in body fluid weight before things start getting serious. Compare that to human who just need 10-15% drop and it might turn fatal for them. 

They are said to go without water for nearly a week to 10 days without water..

You can see how beautifully evolution, nature works!
